General
Egypt, a fascinating country in northeastern Africa, is rich in history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes. With a population of over 100 million people, Egypt is one of the most populous countries on the African continent and is home to one of the oldest civilizations in the world.
The map of Egypt is dominated by the majestic presence of the Nile, which winds its way through the country, giving it life. Along the banks of this mighty river, the Egyptians have created a flourishing civilization for millennia.
Country and People
The capital city of Cairo, a bustling center of commerce, culture, and politics, is one of the largest metropolises in Africa and the Middle East. Here, modernity and tradition blend in fascinating ways. The streets of Cairo are lined with bazaars where exotic scents and vibrant colors enchant the senses.
Egypt is a land of diverse landscapes, from the golden sand dunes of the desert to the turquoise waters of the Red Sea. The coast along the Red Sea is a paradise for divers and snorkelers, with colorful coral reefs and a rich underwater world.
From the Pyramids of Giza to the temples of Luxor and the ruins of Karnak, Egypt is a living museum of the ancient world.
Money
The in currency in Egypt is the Egyptian pound. In tourist areas, payments with major credit cards are possible, but it is advisable to always carry some cash, especially in rural areas. In most of the places it is possible to pay in US Dollar or in Euro.
Egypt offers good value for money for travelers, and most visitors find that their travel funds go further here than in many other countries.
Be aware that there are many people, who see you as a walking wallet. Tip here, tip there, it is very annoying. Plan some extra money for tips, but give it only in a appropriate quantity.
Safety
Egypt is a relatively safe travel destination, especially in tourist areas. However, there are some regions that should be avoided due to political instability or other factors. It is advisable to check the current security conditions before traveling and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
Around the touristic places there are a lot of people who want to sell you something. There is nothing for free. Don’t let them put anything on you and don’t let them give anything in your hand. If you are not interested, a maximum you should do is a “no” or a shaking head, ignore them and walk by.
