Titlis

Titlis

On the Titlis, at an altitude of over 3000m, winter awaits you all year round. Thanks to the glacier, you can always escape the summer here. Keep this in mind when dressing. Only T-shirt and flip-flops are not optimal, even in summer, if you suddenly stand in the snow.

The Titlis is very easy to reach. By car or by train you can go to Engelberg. You might have heard the name from ski jumping, because on the Engelberg ski jump there are regular world cups.

From Engelberg you take a total of 3 cable cars up almost 2000m to the top station at 3020m. After the first cable car you are at the Trübsee. Here you should definitely make a stop on the way there or back. The mountain lake is really beautiful and a hike around the lake is definitely worth it. You can also bring your own barbecue, because around the path there are also a few barbecue spots. You also have the possibility to move on the lake in a rowing boat, but only in summer. In winter, on the other hand, you can go ice skating when the lake is frozen. Or how about ziplining? I didn’t try it because it seemed a bit slow and too unexciting, but on the other hand it wasn’t as expensive as elsewhere.

But now on to the mountain. After the second cable car you will reach the ski hut. In summer it is not very exciting here, but you can take some photos with a different view of the Trübsee. So continue on the last cable car, the Titlis Rotair. The first fully rotating gondola in the world. So make sure you get a window view right away, no matter where, because the gondola will rotate and you can look in any direction.

Once you have reached the top, a very special highlight awaits you in the form of the Glacier Grotto. The 150m long path in the grotto leads 20 deep under the surface of the glacier. The passage is atmospherically illuminated and it is a great experience to be surrounded by the eternal ice. Another highlight is the Titlis Cliff Walk. A narrow suspension bridge with a great view. And of course you will find so many viewpoints with great views up here. And in the glacier park you can even sledge on the glacier in summer.

The Titlis is definitely not cheap, but it is definitely worth it.
