Ovahe

Ovahe

Ovahe is only a few kilometers from Anakena and is also called the secret beach. But it’s not a secret anymore, as you can find it on Google Maps. However, the way to the beach is not shown with a lot of signs and can therefore definitely be described as an unofficial beach.

The path to Ovahe is relatively inaccessible and the beach is natural. That means there are no food stores or toilets or trash cans here. Ovahe is located directly under a cliff, so it should be mentioned, that there is a risk of falling rocks here. In the wall are some caves, which have been used for funerals in earlier days. The caves should not and must not be entered, so please stick to it as well.

At Ovahe beach you will have sun only in the morning, after that the sun will disappeared behind the cliff and the beach is in the shade. The sand has a slightly reddish color. Its not obviously reddish, but if you know it you will notice it. At Ovahe you can snorkel as well. Slightly forward, away from the swirling sand and then to the left. In this area you can see different corals and fishes.
